Thank you for your support Oregon schools, healthcare, and the safety of our communities!
Thank you for helping to pass Ballot Measures 66 and 67
A note of congratulations from PCC Federation of Faculty and Academic Presidents President Eddie Lincoln:
The recent election was a watershed moment for our union, for PCC, and for our students. I am so proud of the work that members contributed to this campaign. I believe this was the largest get out the vote campaign in Oregon's history and many of us were part of that effort. Thank you. And thank you to those of you who contributed by speaking to family and neighbors or by contributing money to this effort. Thank you so much.
With the passage of Measure #66 and #67, we can look forward to a productive special legislative session in February and hopefully we can get farther down this road for more sustainable funding for public education in Oregon, in good times and bad, something we have been lacking for these many years.
Thank you to our national union, AFT and to AFT-Oregon for providing the support needed so that our efforts could be utilized and concentrated where it could help most in this huge educational and Get out the Vote effort. I am sure January 26, 2010 will be long remembered and celebrated.
Once again thanks to everyone who contributed time, money and energy for the successful passage of Measures 66 and 67. It is a great day for Oregon and its citizens.
We have a union to fight for fair wages,
affordable healthcare, a secure retirement, and fair and equitable treatment
on the job. However, the ability of our local to bargain a fair contract
and fight for our rights is affected by the decisions of politicians.
Elected officials decide the laws by which we bargain and enforce our contract.
They also often decide if there is enough money in the budget for us to get
a cost-of-living raise or have access to healthcare.
That's why the real work of the union goes beyond the local community and that's
why we engage collectively in politics through AFT-Oregon Political Action Fund
Our collective voice sends a powerful message and impacts the decisions that
politicians make. Political strength helps ensure that we have fair contracts
and a strong local union.
